Severin Craftsman Training Center

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"

Nelson Mandela

In cooperation with the Society for international Cooperation (GIZ) from Germany and on the basis of a develoPPP contract, the hotel runs five training workshops for craft trades. The training centre in the Green Building aims to impart less theoretical knowledge and more manual skills with immediate added value for the local participants. Based on dual training, courses are offered for electricians, plumbers, bricklayers, carpenters and metal workers. In the training company, which is certified by the Kenyan Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVET), teachers recognised by TVET and trained according to German vocational training standards are used as local trainers. In addition to theoretical learning units with two training rooms, the practical teaching units are taught in cooperation with local craft enterprises and hotels.

For example, the preventive maintenance programmes (PMP) for buildings and machinery conducted at Severin Sea Lodge offer participants ideal opportunities to immediately apply the knowledge they have learned in practical situations. At the end of the courses, there is the possibility of an examination by the Ministry of Education at a TVET centre. As there is a high demand for well-trained skilled workers, the graduates will have no problems finding employment in the Mombasa region or running a small craft business as self-employed persons. The target group for the fee-based courses are graduates of Kenyan primary school with a proven interest in activities in craft trades.

Young people who cannot finance the course fees themselves have the opportunity to apply to our association for support. Currently, we enable 60 young Kenyans to train at the Severin Craftsman Training Centre.
